How much paint do I need?

Room dimensions in, gallons and quarts out. Most wall paints cover 350–400 sq ft per gallon per coat; we use 350 because textured and patched walls drink more.

Assumes 350 sq ft per gallon per coat, 20 sq ft per door and 15 sq ft per window.

What changes the answer

A deep color over a light one often needs a third coat or a tinted primer. New drywall needs primer first. Ceilings take more than the square footage suggests because you roll them slower and heavier.
